Mother 3 Chapter 6 Analysis

Ahhh Chapter 6…

The first time I played Mother 3, Chapter 6 almost made me cry. I felt the tingle in my eyes and had to rub the tears away.

Chapter 6 only takes about five minutes to play. After the iconic scene atop the Thunder Tower, Lucas and gang fall from the sky after failing to hitch a ride on the Porkship. Lucas is seemingly saved by a huge patch of sunflowers. Sunflowers are mentioned during Chapter 1 at Hinawa’s funeral.

We walk for a bit and find our trusty dog Boney. He follows us as we try to find our way out of the sunflower field

The ending of this chapter is the thing that really chokes me up. Lucas sees his mother Hinawa floating in the sky. All he has to do is jump off a cliff and he can hug is mother once more.

And so he does.

But of course, Hinawa doesn’t exist anymore. She’s been dead for three years. Nothing could ever bring her back. And jumping off a cliff doesn’t solve anything.

We land in a pile of hay which Alec (Hinawa’s father) was told to do by his daughter in a dream.

Even from beyond the grave, a mothers love cannot fade away.

And our poor little silent protagonist Lucas isn’t fully healed from the death of his mother yet.
